Teacher of the Year: Giselda Forst, Gez, as she is commonly known, started her career at Parker School in Tolland and has been teaching in Wethersfield since 1991. She earned her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern CT State University and a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Connecticut. Ms. Forst has served on many committees both district-wide and at Emerson-Williams School. She is well-respected by staff and families for her knowledge base and dedication to the profession. Gez is described by her colleagues as a gifted teacher, an “unsung hero” among us. She has a special ability to reach those that are the hardest to teach. The most challenging students make remarkable growth under her guidance and care. There are numerous examples of students who made tremendous growth both behaviorally and academically while under her tutelage. Gez serves as a daily example of excellence. She inspires her colleagues with her dedication, insight and professional ethics. |

Support Staff: Mrs. Patrice Mahder, paraprofessional at Emerson-Williams School, is being recognized for her ability to work extremely well with students and staff. She is committed to doing her best. Her sense of humor, warmth and compassion for others is well known at Emerson-Williams School. Pat is always willing to take on any challenge with grace, dedication and a heightened level of commitment. Because of her character and ethics, Pat has been a model and shining light for everyone who comes in contact with her. |

Parent: Mr. David Berry is being honored for his spirit of generosity. For two years, Dave has served as the co-president of the Emerson-Williams PTO. He was a tireless volunteer whose wit and strategic thinking assisted the PTO in reaching its goals. In addition to being co-president of the PTO for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 school years, Dave is also a leader for the Boy Scouts. His dedication and commitment to youth is very much appreciated by the members of the Emerson-Williams School community. |

Student: Laura Kelly is a scholar, an athlete and a volunteer. She is a hard worker who exceeds expectations in everything that she does, and she is always willing to assist others. Laura is an active member in the community, and she volunteers every year at the Hunger Banquet for The House of Bread. In addition to her academic strengths and community service, Laura also plays basketball for her church and is involved in softball, soccer, and gymnastics. Laura’s dream is to one day play for the UCONN Lady Huskies |

Student:
Daniel Schroeder is a dynamic and eager learner whose consistent effort has helped him achieve academic success. He is famous for working cooperatively with his peers and is always a positive role model. Dan is a member of the Emerson-Williams band, is an active member of the Boy Scouts, and he has volunteered his time to help recycle Christmas trees after the busy holiday season. Dan also takes time whenever he can to help serve food to the needy at a local homeless shelter and he assists during his church’s altar service. In his spare time, Dan plays sports and hopes to become a professional football player or an artist. |
